APPLICATION INFORMATION

SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE:
The Piñon Foundation has created the Piñon Scholarship Program to assist the Fort Stockton High School and Sanderson High School graduates with the costs of higher education. The Foundation hopes to encourage students’ completion of higher education programs with this scholarship opportunity.

Please review complete application details before applying. You can apply online or by mail. Submit the online application form and upload supporting materials. CRITERIA:

The Pinon Scholarship Program is a discretionary merit-based program available to eligible Texas residents that are recent graduates of Fort Stockton High School and Sanderson High School who have successfully been accepted into a college or university. Eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  •  New Applicants

    • Minimum ACT Score of 20 or Minimum SAT Score of 1040

      • Financial Assistance Available to cover 1 Test of either ACT or SAT

    • Proof of enrollment in a University/College/Junior College or Trade School

    • Completed Scholarship Application

    • Cover Letter – why you picked the school you plan to attend along with what future career aspirations are and how the courses and degree chosen will prepare you for that particular career

    • Letter of recommendation from Highschool Teacher, Coach or Educational Advisor

    • Recipients will receive a scholarship advance of $1750 (University/College/Junior College) and $1,250 (Trade School) to assist with the first semester’s tuition by completing this application prior to the beginning of classes

    • Upon completion of their first semester of higher education, scholarship recipients may be eligible to apply for the Piñon Foundation Reimbursement Scholarship to further assist with tuition fees

    • Part time and full time applicants accepted

  • Returning Applicants

    • Proof of enrollment in a University/College/Junior College or Trade School

    • Completed Scholarship Application

    • Official Transcript with minimum GPA per semester of 3.0 or higher

    • Cover Letter – What your future career aspirations are and how the courses and degree chosen will prepare you for that particular career

    • Proof of involvement in a club or extra-curricular activity at your institution or proof of employment during the semester

    • Part time and full time applicants accepted

AMOUNT:
First Semester $1,750 (University/College/Junior College) $1,250 (Trade School). Following Semesters can earn up to $4,700 per semester.

DEADLINE:

Fall Scholarships

Fall 2023 Semester – Due August 11th 2023

Fall 2024 Semester – Due August 9th 2024

 

Spring Scholarships

Spring 2024 Semester – Due January 12th 2024

Spring 2025 Semester – Due January 10th 2025


*Scholarship applications will be denied if all information has not been received by the deadline. Please forward completed Reimbursement Forms, all Support Documents and Current Official Transcript as soon as possible after grades have been released to ensure prompt payment to the school for upcoming semesters.

 

GUIDELINES:

  • Student must attend an accredited college, university, technical school, community college or junior college

  • Student may be sponsored up to 150 hours for undergraduate credits for up to 6 years after high school graduation with a maximum of 8 semesters of reimbursement

  • Minimum ACT Score of 20 or SAT of 1040 for first time students

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA per semester

  • Completed “Scholarship Reimbursement Form”

  • Current Official Transcript from the students university, *unofficial transcripts will be denied*

  • Cover Letter

  • Letter of Recommendation for First Time Applicants

  • Proof of Involvement On or Off Campus for Returning Applicants

  • Students must provide confirmation of enrollment each semester, as the payment of scholarship will be made directly to the school

 

REIMBURSEMENT:

The scholarship amount will be based upon the Tuition Reimbursement Schedule, up to $4,700 per semester, for a maximum of 8 semesters or 150 hours. The scholarship reimbursement check will be issued directly to the institution of the student’s choice for use during the next semester. Prior to reimbursement, the Foundation must receive an official transcript with evidence of good standing from the previous semester, as well as proof of enrollment for the upcoming semester and all other support documents necessary.

The scholarship may be used to cover the costs of tuition and fees, text books or room and board at an accredited college, university, technical school, community college or junior college.

 

AWARD DATE:
Scholarship awards will be processed biweekly.
